Position Description:

The Systems Engineer (Network) develops, maintains, and supports The Home Depot's technical Network Infrastructure.

Must Haves

  • 10 years minimum experience supporting Cisco Networks in an Enterprise setting.
  • 10 years minimum experience in network performance tuning and troubleshooting experience
  • 10 years experience with routing and switching methodologies
  • 2 years Wireless experience with WLAN and associated technologies
    •  Cisco 2100, 4400 & 5500 WLC’s, 1100, 1200, 3500, 3600, 3700, 3800 series AP’s
    • 5 years minimum experience with the following hardware and associated software
      • Routers (Cisco 7600, 7500, 7200, 4551, 4331, 3900, 3800 ,2900, 2800, 2600, 1800, 1700)
      • Switches (Cisco Catalyst 9300 6800 6500, 4500, 3850, 3750, 3650, 3560, 3500, 2956, 1900)
      • 5 years experience with Protocols: BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VTP, VLAN, HSRP, EtherChannel, IPSec VPN

        *     5 years minimum experience supporting 1000+ node systems & 1000+ users in the Enterprise setting

        • 5 years minimum overall experience supporting DFS, DNS, DHCP, Radius services
        • 2 years experience supporting network connections to applications hosted on a cloud platform


          Nice to Haves

          • Experience in Cisco and or Palo Alto Firewalls.
          • Strong understanding of Data and Voice Telecommunications methodologies and best practices (Point-to-point, Frame-relay, MPLS, Ethernet Private Line, METROEthernet, ATM)
          • Effective experience in management of multiple and varying high-level projects
          • Experience with SolarWinds Orion NPM, Engineer Tool Kit, Network Configuration Manager
          • Experience with Wireless Network Site Survey and design using AirMagnet and Air Mapper

            • Experience with Azure cloud technologies as a Data Lake, Service Bus, Azure SQL and Resource Manager

              Performs configuration, debugging, and support for infrastructure, network, database, and security solutions
              Performs field and corporate roll-outs of technology
              Executes basic project planning and reporting
              Stands up the necessary system software, hardware, and equipment (physical or virtual) to meet changing infrastructure needs
              50% - Support & Enablement:
              Collaborates with product and project teams to understand needs and enable them with infrastructure
              Leverages tooling and custom applications to monitor the operational status of applications, infrastructure, networks, databases, and security; optimizes and tunes performance as appropriate
              Performs root cause analysis, debugging, support, and post-mortem analysis for security incidents and service interruptions
              Maintains, upgrades, and supports existing systems and infrastructure to ensure operational stability
              Opens and manages vendor problem tickets to resolution
              Produces in-house documentation around solutions
              Monitors tools and proactively helps teams struggling with systems issues
              Provides application support for software running in production
              Supports the creation of scripts and tools that that drive automation and enable product teams and end users to move towards self service
              10% - Learning:
              Keeps abreast of innovations and industry trends as well as changes to internal systems and determines how they impact tools, training, and support necessary to keep systems up, running, and secure
              Participates in and contributes to learning activities around modern systems engineering core practices (communities of practice)
              Proactively views articles, tutorials, and videos to learn about new technologies and best practices being used within other technology organizations
              NATURE AND SCOPE
              Typically reports to the Systems Engineer Manager or Sr. Manager.
              Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant condition
              Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
